Howls From The Founder
In our latest podcast episode, #9, Drew and I take the deep dive into brain development with neuroscientist Kathy Murphy. She explains how dogs’ brains develop throughout their lives starting in puppyhood. It’s a really big deal because if you understand some of the basics and get things right in puppyhood, you'll set the dog up for success! That means a happier dog, and a lot more joy from your companionship.

Meet the very lovely Miss Blue! She’s about three years old and currently weighs about 98 pounds. She knows she’s a bit on the plump side, and she’s working diligently to lose the weight. Blue received a lot of love from the family who had rescued her from an unfortunate situation. Now their circumstances have changed and they asked Safe Harbor Lab Rescue us if they could possibly find her a new home with an equally loving, attentive family. She’s a Lab after all!

Blue is house trained, crate trained, fine with free roam of the home, and knows a number of commands: sit, down, stay, place, and shake. She loves long walks and is execellent on leash. She’s rather shy and cautious meeting new people, but her warm heart shines through once you get acquainted. She does seem more comfortable with women. Blue is working on learning to share and relinquish things she has when asked. She gets along well with her foster brother and sister, but can be a bit bossy with other dogs. A six foot privacy fence is required in Blue’s new home.

More from her foster parents:

“Blue is one who loves to be loved. She is happy and loves to be the center of attention and seeks out the attention. She will try to insert herself if she feels she is being short changed! She likes to go for walks, cuddle on the couch and learning about the world around her. We’re enjoying watching her experience and learn new things. She is not so sure about those ‘big motor birds’ in the sky. Each time a plane flies overhead she stares at the sky and lets us know “It’s come!”

“We think she will do better as the only dog and in a home with no children. She needs a home with a lot of love, structure and patience. One that will help her reach and maintain a healthy weight is important too.

Note: Blue will only be placed in a home without children.
