Howls From The Founder
In an effort to address high illiteracy rates in Tulare County (California), Read for Life’s Shelter Buddies program has organized a unique reading day for third graders attending summer school at Exeter’s Lincoln School. Instead of reading in class, the students board the Loop Bus and visit the Visalia Animal Care Center. Upon arrival, they are warmly greeted by the dogs residing at the center and engage in the practice of reading to them. This innovative program aims to improve the students’ reading skills while also providing comfort and companionship to the shelter dogs.
