The Kingdom of Bhutan has achieved something remarkable! In a recent announcement, they declared that 100% of their street dog poplulation has been fully sterilized and vaccinated, making it the first country in the world to actually achieve this goal. This followed years of their investing in a humane dog management program with the global animal charity, Humane Society International (HSI).
The project has successfully sterilized and vaccinated more than 150,000 street dogs and micro-chipped 32,000 pet dogs.
There are approximately 300 million street dogs across Asia who battle starvation, untreated diseases, parasitic infections, transmissible cancers, injuries from road traffic accidents, as well as direct persecution and inhumane culling.
