HOWLS FROM THE FOUNDER
Homecoming: Being Present With our Dogs
June 25, 2024
I couldn’t tell you exactly when it was that I discovered Tara Brach, but if I said about ten years ago, I’d be in range. When I found Tara, I found gold. Her heart, her mind, her spirit, and her soul resonated with me in a way that was entirely new and fresh, and largely unfamiliar. She showed-up at just the right time.
Years before that, in a walk through the Harvard bookstore back in 2002, as I was exiting, I noticed a table towards the front of the store with books on sale. I spotted a book by Karen Armstrong called Buddha. I read it, and it changed me because it introduced me to an entirely new perspective on life, which, let’s just say, cleared a lot of things up for me. This book also showed-up at just the right time. And without knowing it, it prepared me to open to the way Tara leads and teaches.
It’s funny how people and things appear when they’re most needed, isn’t it? Perhaps, we are all seen and heard whether we know it or not.
As I say in the episode, through her lessons and meditations, Tara takes people from all walks of life—and from around the world—on personal healing journeys. As she guides, she instructs and helps us heal. I find her approach wonderfully subtle and soothing. And she also takes us on what I like to call “feeling” journeys. She has a magical way of cutting through the layers of emotion, and often-times confusion, and helps us name what we’re feeling. And in that naming, we’re offered relief and the opportunity to learn about ourselves in new ways . . . and to grow.
We are so honored that Tara accepted our invitation to be a guest on the podcast. It’s a beautiful and enlightening conversation that takes many twists and turns and ends with Tara guiding us through a meditation. I’ve received several emails from friends and listeners telling me they’ve listened to the meditation two, and even three times! So don’t miss-out on it. We say thank you, Tara!
